It’s time for BirdFest BirdQuest! Come play this fun free game, a Sequim Merchant Group Event sponsored by Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce, taking place in 20 of Sequim’s Businesses and promoting the Olympic Peninsula BirdFest. Find the beautiful bird sculptures, created by Jake Reichner’s Sequim High School ceramic’s class and match them to the business that you find them in. Game cards available at each of the participating merchants. The Grand Prize is a “Birds Eye View of Sequim” plane ride to Port Townsend and back with Emily Westcott, plus one year’s membership to the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

The 2016 National Avian Photographs exhibition awarded by the National Audubon Society is at the Sequim Civic Center at 152 West Cedar St. Sequim is the only location in the western states to host this amazing collection of photographs and meet the Grand Prize Winner, Bonnie Block, from Gig Harbor during from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Also, visit the Peeps Diorama Exhibit sponsored by Sequim’s City Arts Advisory Commission and vote for the “Peeples” Choice Award! The Peeps Diorama Exhibit is part of a national trend of art shows using the popular marshmallow candy to a create tableau or scene.
New Location! Find spring colors and fresh styles of artful up-cycled items at The Bag Ladies of Sequim at 161 W Washington Street. All of their creations are one of a kind items that are handmade. Each item has a unique combination of felting, hand dying, beading, embroidering and appliqueing. Several other artists’ works are for sale in their shop now facing Washington Street.
Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. presents “Just me! Plants and Animals” with featured 2 dimensional artist and art teacher Mary Franchini and 2 and 3 dimensional artist Barbara Neswald. Mary Franchini, contemporary artist, teacher and juror for regional shows, will include self-portraits. Barbara Neswald, a recent transplant to the Peninsula from Philadelphia, will showcase plants and animals. For years, Barbara has been known for her commitment to Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators.
Sequim’s Sunshine Café exhibits the art of Mary Leone Howard at 145 W Washington St. This exhibition includes a series of five, charcoal and graphite drawings of the Sequim Elk Herd. They were drawn as composites, from photos, taken by her husband and Mary, over a 10 year period, after they first arrived in Sequim in 2000.
The Museum and Arts Center features “Color and Texture: One Man’s Adventure in Quilt Making” an exhibition of Stan Green’s quilts at 175 W. Cedar St. The exhibition of quilts representing the progression of Stan’s styles over 16 plus years.
Painter Shirley Mercer art is on display at Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. and enjoy award winning artfully crafted wines with live music of duo Bread & Gravy featuring a dynamic vocalist/rhythm guitarist and a versatile pianist.
Olympic Theatre Arts presents the Discovery Bay Pirates Reunion at 414 N. Sequim Ave. Fans have missed Discovery Bay Pirates since this popular Peninsula group disbanded in 2015, ending its long history of Irish pub songs, sea shanties, and other folk music. During the Art Walk, this great quartet will reassemble for a reunion performance at Olympic Theater Arts in Sequim from 5:30-7:00. Admission is free. After the Pirates finish, starting at 7:30, Olympic Theatre Arts will stage its current production of “Over the River and Through the Woods”.
Lovely jewelry demonstrations with Paulette Hill and Gail Mclain at R&T Crystals and Beads at 158 E Bell St. that includes homemade cookies from Sequim Fresh Catering and a sale on creative goods at the store to inspire your creativity.

At the Gallery at 5th Avenue presents “No Limits” exhibition with a personal motto of “You don’t know you can’t do it until you try it!” artist Carol Wilhelm experiments with new subjects, new techniques, and new styles. Carol has had a lifelong interest in all forms of art, enjoying a wide variety of arts and crafts mediums including stained glass, silk painting, rug-making, knitting, crochet, sewing, collage and driftwood sculpture to name a few. Painting with North Olympic Watercolorists, her primary focus is watercolor but the gallery will also display one-of-a-kind Nuno-felted scarves, wall panels and table runners.

Lamb Farm Kitchen at 272 W. Bell St, behind the Oak Table, presents Jan Kepley and his photography. Jan has been working in the arts of music, writing, painting, natural sound recording, photography and food creation for most of his life. He started photographing in 1977 with a $10 Kodak instamatic camera. His work includes macro floral, scenic and concept pieces. Jan and his wife, Kay, began a fine art photography business, Natural Light Photography, in 1985 that grew into wedding and portrait work. In 2016 Jan retired from doing commercial work and returned to his fine art roots. They now use his photographs for website design, presentation programming, videos, wall hung prints and a greeting card line.
Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. presents “Doing Our Own Thing” with featured artists Barbara Boerigter, a two and three dimensional artist, and Ryoko Toyama, a watermedia artist. Barbara Boerigter states, “Although schooled in classic sculpture, from the beginning I have been drawn to unusual materials and found objects, things used and then forgotten. The resulting works can be intriguing, or not.” Ryoko Toyama shares that, “Painting is the active response to my world, past and present. Inspiration comes from visible objects, music, and words. I like to create “emotional reality” as described by Skip Lawrence.”

The Museum and Arts Center features an exhibition of Reiko Yamaguchi Barclay’s art at 175 W. Cedar St. Her paintings and illustrations have received awards and recognition. She studied with many masters in painting, children’s illustration, sculpture. Her artwork have been displayed world-wide and this includes public murals. In 1991, she was designated one of the 75 best children’s illustrators.
Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. hosts Hot Llamas at local bluegrass/newgrass band from a mixture of musicians from Sequim and Port Angeles and enjoy award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits.

Heather Creek at 122 W Washington St. is showcasing artist Hope Jacobus and her “Industrial Chic” Torch Fire Jewelry. Hope states “I love watching a bead I am making immerge from the torch flame.”
Singer and artist Priscilla Patterson is performing at Sequim Spice and Tea 139 W Washington St. Along with her paintings, Priscilla is showcasing songs from her new CD “Wonderful World!”
Sequim’s Sunshine Café hosts photographer and jeweler Cindy Kern for the Art Walk at 135 W Washington St. Cindy was raised in rural Montana on a farm and ranch nestled beneath the Pryor Mountains. Now residing in Sequim, she loves to explore everything from the mountains to the ocean, with a camera always around her neck. She earned a BA in Film and Photography at Montana State University and a minor in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management.
In celebration of the New Year, the Blue Whole Gallery presents a group show titled “Back to Basics: Black and White” at 129 W Washington St. Curated by Nancy Lawrence and Karin Anderson, this show reveals the challenge presented when limiting the palette. The bold graphic punch of black and white that stimulates and sharpens the mind is modified by soft tones of grey, which lull one into a reflective meditative mood. This dichotomy asks, what is going on here.
The Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St. has shiny motorcycles with artworks by Skip Kratzer, including a motorcycle that he skillfully pinstriped.
The City of Sequim and the City Arts Advisory Commission Reception for “Fused, Stained and Fired…all things glass” exhibition opens at 5:00 PM at the Sequim Civic Center at 152 W. Cedar Street. This exhibition includes demonstrations by Millie Harrell with an informal class on her stained glass process at 5:00, Lizbeth Harper will show the four stages a piece of glass goes through from raw glass to finished design at 5:30, and Joanna Hays will demonstrate her process for creating glass beads at 6:00.
Olympic Theatre Arts at 414 N Sequim Ave. hosts Twelfth Night Revelry a staged reading of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (Or What You Will). You can join the entertainment if you wish and dress the part for a romping Renaissance Reading of the Bard on at 7:00 PM.
We are sorry to say that the “Whodunnit Downtown?” event will not be held this January 6, 2017. There were some details that we weren’t able to work out in time to pull the event together this year, but we are hopeful to revive it in 2018. The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival’s “Material Measurement – Magnitude, Meaning & Makers” fiber arts juried exhibition is at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St. is about vindicating the volume and importance of all fiber in its many forms while reflecting on textiles, tales, and talent through enlightenment, abundance, accumulation, and perception. Conspicuous consumption or considerate consequences, creators convey cloth’s transformation from meaningless mass into something that matters. Fiber Artists included in the exhibition are Carolyn Abbott, Lynn Baritelle, Helga Barton, Beverly Biegle, Catherine Bilyard, Renne Emiko Brock, Debra Danielson, Lauralee DeLuca, Liisa Fagerlund, Marijane Figg, MarySue French, Debi Glass, Janet Green, Pamela Hastings, Heartfelt Collective, Leslie Hoex, Lee Johnson, Margie Kepner, Susan Kroll, Danielle Lawrence, Mary Liebsch, Connie Lobo, Donna McMillen, Sherry Nagel, Sue Nylander, Pat Oden, Noreen O’Neill, Betty Oppenheimer, Ilse Osier, Monica Quarto, Diane Ross, Sandy Schlechter, Gladys Schulz, Alison Sell, Gloria Skovronsky, Stephanie Swenson, Marla Varner, Judy Warner, Diane Williams, Christie Wise, and Beth Witters. Steve Anderson takes the stage at 5:30 p.m., at the Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N, Sequim Ave. Admission is free, concessions and beverage bar will be open. All are welcome to enjoy Anderson’s rendering of familiar standards and perhaps a few new tunes. Originally from Texas, he played for several years in San Diego’s Bluegrass Band scene and with other bands, both as lead vocalist, guitarist and mandolin player. His early influences included the rock bands of the 1970s like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and Bad Company. Today he enjoys everything from Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Eric Clapton, and Elton John. Comfortable with a host of musical genres, from blues, country, folk and rock, he is in demand by local performing artists on the peninsula.
Paulette Hill, D’Ann Gonzales and Gail McLain will be doing jewelry demonstrations at R&T Crystals and Beads at 158 E Bell St. that includes delicious cookies and many bargains at the store to inspire your creativity.
Meet a “budding” artist at Cedarbrook Lavender and learn more about the artistry of lavender at 134 1/2 W Washington St.
Blue Whole Gallery’s features Jan Tatom, a fiber artist, who is inspired by spectacular colors and textures of nature reflected in the mountains, woods and the sea found on the Olympic Peninsula. She weaves these elements with the aid of two looms and her short experience in weaving. Along with the weaver’s world of Jan Tatom, a selection of art works by Artists of the Blue Whole Gallery will also be on display at 129 W Washington St. This showing reveals the varied talents and styles represented by 2D and 3D artists that make up this 19 year co-operative gallery.
Mia Bella at 130A N 3rd Ave. features fascinating art by Curposney Gadane of Enhanced Art containing surrealistic storytelling via collage. Look for the luminaries at Mia Bella where artists Paula Graham, Pat Gordon, George Zien, Priscilla Patterson, Pam Kauffman are on display, and gorgeous concrete garden features of hosts, rhubarb, and other exotic leaves bejeweled and painted by Joanie Schmoll.

Our theme color for the Art Walk is YELLOW! Yellow shines like the sun fueling our world and inspiring creative communication. The brightness of yellow represents happiness, cheerful friendships, expressive enthusiasm, and empowers goodwill and justice.
Yellow is also for bright Pokémon Pikachu! During the August 5 Art Walk, come out and play Pokémon Go while lures will be put in downtown Pokéstops near venues to attract more Pokémon for you collect. Who will control the Pokémon Gym near the Sequim Civic Center? Red, Blue, or Yellow?

August 5 will be the final day for “Keying Around”. Ken Young will be playing piano on the plaza from 12-1 PM. People are encouraged to come and play the pianos one last time. During the August 5 Art Walk, the 3 painted pianos will also be auctioned off. Final bidding in a silent auction ends at 6:30 PM. We will also be accepting pledges for the school district’s Fund A Need. Needs have been identified by teachers as Light the Stage for Drama! ($356.49), Destination Imagination Team ($1,950), Large scale laser printer for Sequim Middle School ($5,000), and Xylophones for Greywolf students ($8,262.45).
R&T Crystals and Beads at 158 E Bell St. has Paulette Hill and Gail McLain doing a jewelry creation demonstration. Cookies will be provided by Sequim Fresh Catering and will have special sales for the Art Walk.
Carl Baker, a wood artist, and Mary Franchini, a multimedia artist are showcased at Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St for “Remember August” exhibition. Enjoy their skillfully crafted wood art and unique paintings that create a harmony, present energy of the summer, and stimulate viewers’ imagination into the world of fine art.
Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St. hosts live music with The Mogis and artist Mike Pace with award winning artfully crafted wines with appetizing tidbits. The Mogis are a rock/folk band out of Port Angeles. Jason Mogi on Banjo, Kim Trenerry on guitar and Paul Stehr-Green on bass with a mixture of tunes from 60s & 70s.

Olympic Theater Arts at 414 N Sequim Ave. provides music by Pistachio Moon, a new musical trio whose members are already well-known to the community. The trio includes Michael Bunnell and Penny Pemberton, creators and producers of the popular Open Mic at OTA, and John Winters, musician and sound engineer. The three have been working on an eclectic mix of songs which they categorize as “Songs you’ll Remember.” The August 5 First Friday event will be the group’s debut as a performing trio and play mainstream pop tunes from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the music starting at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost. Pemberton has performed as a professional vocalist in San Francisco and other communities and is a well-known performer on the OTA stage. Winters began playing music at the age of eight and has played in several bands since. His bandmates call him a “keyboard wizard.” Burnell is a former radio entertainer with community theater stage experience. He plays guitar and shares vocal duties with Pemberton.
