November 6 Art Walk Color Theme is BROWN! Brown is the color of fall harvest and abundance, the turning of the leaves, and seasonal spicy treats. The solid color of brown represents steadfast friendships, family trees and bonds, deep roots and supportive branches, and comforting homesteads. You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in shades of bountiful brown or representations of hearth and harvest as they enjoy an evening on the town with friends and family.

Engage with local fiber artists at “Fostered Fiber – Remembrance, Remnants & Mentors” the 2015 North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Juried Exhibition at the Museum & Arts Center at 175 West Cedar St. This year the exhibition theme is about expressing the dedication to cloth, cherished memories, and mentorship with gifts of knowledge and kindness, while cultivating interest in generations to come in the practice of fiber arts creation and sharing of abundance. From first attempts to work with thread, yarn, and fleece to refined finished objects of art, the fiber works that tell stories of fostering learning and living are desired. Hart’s Fine Books presents fine artist Erica McClain, book artist Jean Wyatt, and DJ Jason Dalziel playing jazz and classics on a vintage victrola at 161 W Washington St.

 

Live bluegrass, folk and rock music with Joy in Mudville with award winning artfully crafted wines at Wind Rose Cellars at 143 W Washington St.

 

Olympic Theatre Arts (OTA) at 414 N. Sequim Ave. is featuring guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Jake Reichner, from 5:30 to 7:30 for the theatre company’s OFF Stage (OTA First Friday) event. Reichner performs original music inspired by nature and art while exploring musical genres including folk, country, classic rock and even rap. Immediately following Reichner’s performance, OTA will be presenting on Main Stage the classic comedy “The Man Who Came to Dinner” beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. featured Katherine Loveland, photographer, and Jan Tatom, fiber artist, with “Art of Elegance” sharing the artists’ inner eyes, ability to capture nature, and skills that have been fostered over years.  Their art will take viewers to the world of fine art filled with joy.

Initiated in 2006, the First Friday Art Walk Sequim is an encouraging and educational arts event that is sponsored and produced by Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond / unique as you. The Art Walk celebrates its ninth-year anniversary this month of fostering creative and artistic ideals while supporting local businesses, including artists as enterprises, to create cultural vitality that is financially beneficial, intrinsically responsible, and improves the quality of life in our community. With collaborative contribution and the encouragement of our community, the Art Walk continues to grow and prosper. It is has always been free for businesses and artists of all media to participate and free to the public to enjoy.

 

October 2 Art Walk Color Theme is ORANGE! Orange is full of energy and inspires active participation and encouragement. The warm hue of orange reminds us toasty fires, nesting and organizing, seasonal sweaters, friendship made out of admirable interests, delightful zesty sweets, supportive teachers and mentors. The Tenth Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival launches during the Art Walk! Hart’s Fine Books presents book signing event with Marina Shipova and Noel Price with the books of Sadko Baba Yaga and the Murom Wood at 161 W Washington St. These beautifully illustrated stories are English translations of ancient folk tales based upon historical events and geographical locations from their Russian Folk Portal series. They have been researched and restored to their proper place in space and time, preserving an element of magic and fantasy. Free to public with live music and refreshments.

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. presents guest artist, Richard Jesse Watson. Acclaimed artist, Richard Jesse Watson, exhibits work at Blue Whole Gallery in October. His paintings hang in museums, corporate and private collections internationally. The paintings represented in this exhibit span two ends of a continuum, refined realism and untethered abstraction.

 

Local Yarn Shop at 213 E Washington St. hosts Chick Dixon Band and a demonstration of Portuguese knitting.

September 4 Art Walk Color Theme is BLUE! Shifting from summer to autumn, September brings earlier, cooler evenings that motivate creativity and collecting friends to enjoy community events. Blue is inspiring and imaginative like a night sky full of shooting stars or a cloudless day full of possibilities while also being reliable, sound, and willful. Blue can be dreamy, peaceful, and hopeful, yet it also is strong and honest full of professionalism, ambition, responsibility, and building alliances. You will find works of art and folks supporting the option to dress in shades of blue or representations of lofty and loyal aspirations as they enjoy an evening on the town with friends and family.

In the lobby of the Sequim Civic Center is a reception of the first rotating art exhibit based on the theme “What Sequim Means to Me” at 152 W. Cedar Street.

Blue Whole Gallery at 129 W Washington St. has “Autumn light” featuring artists Debbie Cain, gourd artist, and Ryoko Toyama, painter. They will showcase unique work in the front windows, celebrating the season of harvest. Debbie and Ryoko create from what they see, feel and imagine, taking viewers to the world of fine arts filled with joy. Ryoko expresses about her work, “Painting is my active response to the world, past and present.  I create my feelings and thoughts in painting. Inspiration comes from visible objects or concepts, animated or lifeless. My creative process begins with the end in mind.  However, my work often takes its own course, producing the unexpected in a magical transition.”  Cain explains, “I did my first gourd art about ten years ago and was totally captivated to explore the possibilities on this new 3d canvas.  I have painted, embellished with enlace, embedded stones and add any natural materials such as pine needles.  I enjoy doing custom work such as pet and people portraits.”

Singing No Batteries RequiredSequim Branch of the North Olympic Library System featuring color pencil artist Vana Arnold and No Batteries Required will be performing at 6:30pm at 630 N Sequim Ave. No Batteries Required is made up of members of the Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus, the local Barbershop Harmony Society Chapter. Bud Davies (baritone), Jim Muldowney (bass), Rich Wyatt (tenor), and Rich Johnston (lead) bring a wealth of experience and musicality to their performances. From their website: “The quartet No Batteries Required was formed in the spring of 2011 and has been touring the Peninsula since looking for Bigfoot and someone to sing to.” Vana Arnold is a Sequim artist who works mainly with colored pencil.  From a young age she has loved to draw and gets her inspiration from her passion for the great outdoors.  Her detailed and colorful drawings bring animals to life before your eyes.  When she’s not drawing she is out enjoying life on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Art is on display between September 3 and December 1.

At 7:30 PM, Olympic Theatre Arts at 414 N. Sequim Ave. has two one-act comedies by Tom Stoppard and directed by Lily Carignan. “The Real Inspector Hound” is a case of mistaken identity when two critics are assigned to a murder mystery play. “Fifteen Minute Hamlet” is Shakespeare’s Hamlet performed within the length of 15 minutes. Sit down, hold on, and keep up with this hilarious fast-paced version of everyone’s favorite tragedy.

The Museum and Arts Center at 175 W. Cedar St. presents “One Hundred Years & Counting” an exhibit celebrating 100 years of Sequim Masonic Lodge #213. During the Art Walk, John Majors will be signing his new book “Freemasons in the Sequim-Dungeness Area 1915-2015.”
